At a glance: The first sub Saharan African state to drop colonialism and walk alone, Ghana boasts one of the most stable economies on the continent. Located in western Africa, Ghana is a multicultural country with many different ethnic, linguistic and religious groups. It’s a member of some international organizations including the Commonwealth of Nations, the Economic Community of West African States, the African Union, and the United Nations. Endowed with natural resources, Ghana is the second largest producer of cocoa in the world. The climate is tropical, with a dry season in the winter months, and a rainy season in the summer months. Ghana is an intriguing country with many wonders to discover and enjoy, from the biggest artificial lake (Volta Lake) in the world to its sun-drenched beaches, via culturally interesting historic slave forts such as the Cape Coast Castle and the Elmina Castle. If you go there, you can’t miss: the bustling and vibrant capital city of Accra, with the enchanting Aburi Botanical Gardens and the characteristic Makola Market; the long white sandy beach at Busua; the Kakum National Park with its wildlife; the National cultural centre in Kumasi; Kaneshie food and spices market.
