At a glance: Japan’s second city is located just South of Tokyo, part of the mega conurbation that is Tokyo to Osaka and below. More than 3 and half million inhabitants live in this port city. The main locations of interest where you should go to shoot winning photos are: Minato Mirai 21, the central business district of the city where stands the Landmark Tower, one of the highest skyscrapers in Japan, and the Marine Tower, the highest lighthouse in the world; Sankei-en, the lovely Japanese-style garden; the Yamate area, also known as “The Bluff”, offering the best view over the city’s harbour; Chinatown, the biggest Chinese area in the entire Asia; the vibrant and bustling neighborhoods of Isezakicho and Noge filled with restaurants and shops. Yokohama has developed over the years a widespread photography culture. So, besides being a place rich in amazing photo spots, it is also home to Photo Yokohama, a series of events about photos and images being held from January to March all over the city. Anyway, Photo Yokohama is not the only important annual event taking place in Yokohama. The Yokohama Film Festival has award prizes to Japanese best films and actors since 1980.
